Modern DVD Players
Now, this might sound like an unusual topic for blogging but let’s see if anyone else finds it as shocking as I do. I actually know someone who not only does not own a DVD player, but has never owned one in their entire life. Okay, so they’re not all that into films – probably weird arty types or gym fanatics, to each their own.
But no. This person loves films. This person lives for films. This person watches films practically every day. This person owns a VHS player.
In case you don’t remember VHS, they were these huge rectangular tapes (I’m assuming we are all familiar with tapes here – not sellotape – as in, video tapes, cassette tapes). If you’re young, you might recall your parents screaming “put it in the video” or “the video’s broken. It’s not recording”. They would have been referring to the aforementioned VHS player which was slow and fuzzy as hell, and has, for a long time, been replaced by the wonderful DVD player.
So as you can imagine, it comes as a shock to me that a person who loves watching films does so not on a fast and convenient, quality DVD player, but a bumbling old VHS. Like, where does she get her videos from to watch? Some old charity shop, it transpires. But seriously. Having been back to the age old days of videos at her house, I can confirm that there is no trick we are all missing in discarding the rusty machine – it really is not a patch on your trusty DVD player. Think I know what I’ll be getting for her birthday – yep – a DVD player it most definitely has to be.
